Alimta

Alimta (Pemetrexed) interferes with the maintenance and production of DNA which is the generic material in the cells of the body. It has a greater effect on the cells that reproduce often like cancer cells.

What is Alimta used for?

Alimta is used in treating Pleural Mesothelioma, a form of rare lung cancer associated with exposure to asbestos. The drug may also be used for other purposes not listed in the medication guide.

Drug Description:

Alimta is in the FDA pregnancy Category D. What this means is, Alimta is known to be harmful to an unborn baby. Do not use Alimta without first talking with your doctor if you are pregnant or could become pregnant during treatment. You should tell your doctor if you have: Kidney disease, immune system disorder, blood or bone marrow problems, an infection or fluid around the lungs or in the abdomen.

Alimta is administered as an intravenous injection. It is important to take Alimta regularly to get the most benefit.
