Crocidolite Asbestos
Crocidolite is one of the five types of Amphibole asbestos whose mineral
crystals are structured like a chain. Crocidolite fibers are shorter with a
smaller diameter than other amphibole asbestos fibers, but they are not as
narrow as chrysotile fibers. They are often called "blue asbestos" and occur
naturally in Australia, South Africa, former Soviet Union and Canada. Most,
but not all, cases of mesothelioma have a history of occupational exposure
to amphibole asbestos, principally crocidolite, either alone or in
amphibole-chrysotile mixtures.
