The mesothelioma treatments that are available attempt to slow or remove cancer growth that are often aggressive in nature. A number of factors can influence the final decision about which mesothelioma treatment should be used: stage & location of the cancer, age of the patient, and side effects of the treatment and their possible effect on the overall health of the patient and chances of survival. Radiology treatment attacks the tumors with radiation, eliminating or reducing them. The final form of mesothelioma treatment is chemotherapy. Chemotherapy targets cancer cells with aggressive medication. Both radiation and chemotherapy are often used after surgical mesothelioma treatment to remove remaining cancer cells however neither radiation nor chemotherapy has been successful as a mesothelioma treatment when used alone.
